I'm thrilled to share my secrets with you! With nearly two decades of dance teaching experience, I'm passionate about helping you unlock your full potential as a Tango Dancer. I love working with the natural movement of the body to create a fluid dynamic and a smooth flow. During my period as a Tango student, I struggled to understand some of the basic concepts that most teachers were trying to explain. However, I developed that knowledge, adding my own, and translated it in a way that is accessible for students to understand, transmitting technical tools in a practical and accessible manner. I feel so delighted to be able to share this knowledge with you. This workshop has limited availability and it's in a semi-private configuration. We will have a cozy and inviting environment to dive deep into our understanding of Tango Technique.
FOOT ARTICULATION WORKSHOP CONTENT:
SO WHY IS FOOT ARTICULATION SO IMPORTANT?
Foot articulation is a crucial aspect of tango because it profoundly influences the dancer's technique, expression, and connection with their partner. Here’s why it’s so important:
1.Precision and Control:
- Balance: Proper foot articulation helps dancers maintain balance. In tango, dancers often shift their weight between feet, and good footwork ensures smooth transitions.
- Lead and Follow: The subtle movements of the feet communicate a lot of information between partners. For instance, a well-articulated foot can signal a change in direction or rhythm, helping the follower anticipate the leader’s next move.
2. Musicality:
- Rhythm:Tango music is complex and varied, and foot articulation allows dancers to interpret and express the nuances of the music through their movements. Precise footwork enables dancers to hit accents, pauses, and syncopations with clarity.
- Expression: Articulating the foot in different ways can convey emotions or moods. For example, a soft, sliding motion can evoke tenderness, while a sharp, staccato step can express intensity.
3. Fluidity and Aesthetics:
- Smooth Transitions: Tango involves a lot of pivoting, gliding, and sudden changes of direction. Foot articulation allows these movements to flow smoothly, making the dance look effortless and graceful.
- Visual Appeal: The way the foot is placed, rolled, or lifted contributes to the visual beauty of the dance. Skilled dancers use their feet to create elegant lines and shapes, enhancing the overall aesthetics of the performance.
4. Connection with the Floor:
- Gronding: In tango, there’s a strong emphasis on being connected to the floor. Proper foot articulation ensures that dancers stay grounded, which is essential for maintaining stability and control.
- Energy Transfer: The way the foot interacts with the floor affects how energy is transferred through the body and between partners. For example, a well-articulated step can create a strong, grounded base for a powerful movement or a light, delicate touch for a more subtle expression.
5. Partner Connection:
- Sensitivity: Tango is a highly connected dance, and the communication between partners is often non-verbal. The feet play a significant role in this connection. A well-articulated foot can communicate intentions clearly, making the lead and follow more intuitive.
- Synchronisation: Precise footwork helps partners stay in sync with each other. When both dancers articulate their feet well, their movements align more naturally, leading to a more harmonious dance.
In summary, foot articulation in tango is not just about where you place your feet but how you place them. It influences every aspect of the dance, from technical precision and musicality to the emotional connection between partners and the visual appeal of the performance!
